HOT SPRINGS, Ark. — A late-night shooting has claimed the life of Nathan Lynch, an assistant coach remembered by players and colleagues as a mentor who led with heart.
Hot Springs Police confirmed that the shooting occurred late Friday night and is being investigated as a homicide. One person is in custody, authorities said.
Investigators said the incident stemmed from an altercation, but have not released further details about what led to the shooting or the relationship between Lynch and the suspect. The name of the person in custody has not been made public pending formal charges.
Nathan Lynch was killed at the scene. He served as an assistant coach in the community, where athletes and families say he made a lasting impact far beyond the field. Players describe him as dedicated, encouraging, and invested in their lives on and off the court.
“Coach Lynch believed in us even when we didn’t believe in ourselves,” one former player shared. “He taught us about hard work, respect, and showing up for each other. This doesn’t feel real.”
News of his death has sent shockwaves through Hot Springs schools and sports programs. Tributes have poured in from parents, colleagues, and students who say Lynch’s loss leaves a void that can’t be filled.
The Hot Springs Police Department said detectives are continuing to investigate and ask anyone with information about the Friday night incident to come forward.
Funeral arrangements for Nathan Lynch have not yet been announced. His family has requested privacy as they grieve.
He was deeply respected and deeply loved — a coach, mentor, and friend whose life was taken too soon. Hot Springs will remember Nathan Lynch for the lives he touched and the legacy he leaves behind.
