WAKE COUNTY, N.C. — Three families and multiple communities are mourning after a devastating single-vehicle crash claimed the lives of three young men and left another seriously injured early Saturday morning in southern Wake County, North Carolina.
Darius Josiah Stevens, a Fort Bragg soldier, was identified among the three victims killed in the crash on U.S. 1. The names of the other victims are being withheld pending family notification.
According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the crash happened just after 2 a.m. Saturday when the vehicle left the roadway on U.S. 1 and overturned. Three occupants were pronounced dead at the scene. A fourth person was transported to a local trauma center with serious injuries. Their condition has not been released.
Troopers said speed and impairment are being evaluated as possible contributing factors. The investigation remains ongoing.
Stevens was remembered by fellow soldiers as dedicated, loyal, and proud to serve. “Darius was the kind of guy who had your back, no matter what,” a member of his unit said. “Fort Bragg lost a brother.”
Community members near Fort Bragg and in Wake County have begun sharing tributes online, expressing grief over the sudden loss of three young lives.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact their office.
