MARSHALL, Texas — The community of Marshall is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Felton Augusta Hopkins Jr., 98, who tragically passed away following a two-vehicle crash at Loop 390 and Scottsville Road on Friday morning.
Emergency responders were called to the intersection just after the collision occurred. Hopkins was transported from the scene, but later died from injuries sustained in the crash.
At 98, Hopkins was a longtime resident known to many in Marshall. Friends and neighbors remember him as a familiar face in the community — a man who had seen nearly a century of change in East Texas and remained active and engaged in the town he called home.
“Mr. Hopkins was part of the fabric of Marshall,” one neighbor said. “To lose him like this is just heartbreaking. He had so much history, so many stories. Our prayers are with his family.”
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by local authorities. No additional injuries were immediately reported. Officials have not released further details about the second vehicle involved.
