Scott Gerlicher Obituary: Excelsior Morning Rotary Mourns Beloved Leader, Community Champion, and ‘Fun Magnet

The Excelsior Morning Rotary community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Scott Gerlicher, a beloved leader, trusted friend, dedicated volunteer, and self-described “fun magnet” whose passing has left an immeasurable void in the hearts of family, friends, fellow Rotarians, and countless community members.

Known for his boundless energy, generous spirit, and remarkable ability to bring people together, Scott was a driving force behind many of the events and initiatives that helped strengthen the Excelsior community. His death has prompted an outpouring of grief and gratitude from those fortunate enough to know him, with many reflecting on the lasting impact he made through both his leadership and friendship.

As Events Chair for the Excelsior Morning Rotary, Scott played a pivotal role in organizing and growing some of the community’s most beloved gatherings. His vision, enthusiasm, and commitment helped transform the summer Concerts in the Commons series and the annual Oktoberfest fundraiser into cherished traditions that brought neighbors, families, and visitors together year after year.

Friends and colleagues describe Scott as someone who never simply attended an event—he elevated it. Whether planning community celebrations, coordinating volunteers, or finding creative ways to make every gathering more meaningful, Scott approached every task with passion, positivity, and a genuine desire to serve others.

His fellow Rotarians remember him as the ultimate “get it done” partner, a dependable leader who could always be counted on to step forward when needed. No challenge was too large, and no detail was too small when it came to helping his community thrive. His enthusiasm was contagious, inspiring those around him to become more involved and to embrace the spirit of service that defined Rotary’s mission.

Beyond his volunteer work, Scott was known for his warmth, humor, and ability to make everyone feel welcome. His infectious personality earned him the nickname “fun magnet,” a title he embraced wholeheartedly. Whether sharing stories by the lake, celebrating community milestones, or simply spending time with friends, Scott had a gift for creating memorable moments and bringing joy to those around him.

The impact of his life extends far beyond the events he organized. Friends say Scott’s greatest accomplishment was the countless relationships he built and the positive influence he had on the lives of others. His kindness, generosity, and unwavering optimism left a lasting impression on everyone who crossed his path.

As news of his passing spread, tributes poured in from community members who remembered Scott not only as a leader but as a friend, mentor, and source of encouragement. Many have shared stories of his dedication, laughter, and ability to unite people around a common purpose.

A Celebration of Life honoring Scott Gerlicher will be held on Friday, June 12, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Lafayette Club in Minnetonka Beach, with a special presentation scheduled for 5:30 p.m. In keeping with Scott’s vibrant personality and love of celebration, attendees are encouraged to wear festive attire, including Hawaiian shirts.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial donations be made to Breakthrough T1D and the Hendrickson Foundation, causes that were meaningful to Scott and reflective of his commitment to helping others.

While the Excelsior Morning Rotary community mourns a tremendous loss, members are also celebrating a life filled with purpose, friendship, service, and joy. The events Scott helped create, the friendships he nurtured, and the community spirit he inspired will continue to live on for years to come.

His absence will be deeply felt during future concerts, community gatherings, and lakeside evenings, but his legacy will remain woven into the fabric of the community he loved so dearly
