Anaconda, MT Shooting at Carmel’s Bar: Police Investigate After Gunfire Incident on East Third Street, Suspect in Custody

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — A second man has been convicted in a 2020 Birmingham home invasion that killed a man and wounded his pregnant girlfriend, who delivered their baby one day after the shooting.

A Jefferson County jury convicted 33-year-old Cameron Dejuan Blanding of felony murder in the Feb. 6, 2020, shooting death of 27-year-old Devonta Reddick and attempted murder in the shooting of Sabrea Baylor.

Blanding was the second defendant convicted in the case. Previously convicted was 46-year-old Melvin Charles Morris, who was sentenced to life in prison. Both men were initially charged with capital murder during a burglary but convicted of lesser charges.

Years-Long Case
Blanding was one of two men arrested last year following a chase in east Jefferson County. It wasn’t immediately clear why he was out on bond in the capital murder case, but his bond was revoked following his March 2025 arrest.

For Baylor, the verdict closes a painful chapter that began the night she was shot while pregnant with Reddick’s child. She delivered the couple’s baby the day after the shooting.

“It was a tough case, and it was designed for there to be no witnesses left alive,” Baylor said. “I’m just grateful that God spared my life and my kids’ lives. It’s been a long six years of this.”

Baylor thanked investigators and prosecutors for their work in securing convictions against both Blanding and Morris.
