MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. — A heartbreaking incident in Milledgeville is under investigation after authorities say a pregnant woman and her unborn child were found dead alongside a man in what is being treated as an apparent murder-suicide.
According to the Milledgeville Police Department, officers were called to a residence in the 100 block of North Richmond Street around 10:15 a.m. on June 19 for a request for assistance. When officers arrived, they discovered the bodies of 31-year-old Briuna Hartry and 33-year-old Jajuan Taylor inside the home.
Police Chief Dray Swicord stated that preliminary findings suggest Taylor fatally shot Hartry, who was approximately 33 weeks pregnant, before taking his own life. Investigators believe the incident occurred sometime between midnight and 8 a.m. on Friday.
The tragedy has left family members, friends, and co-workers in profound shock and grief, particularly as they remember Hartry’s anticipation and joy surrounding the upcoming birth of her daughter. Just days before her death, Hartry shared a social media post expressing gratitude after colleagues surprised her with a baby shower, writing that her “baby girl is already loved,” a message now widely shared and mourned by those who knew her.
Loved ones also recalled earlier celebrations held during the pregnancy, including a gender reveal gathering earlier in the year that captured moments of joy, excitement, and hope for the future. Those memories now stand in painful contrast to the tragedy that unfolded.
Authorities have confirmed there is no ongoing threat to the public as the investigation continues. Detectives are working alongside the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab in Macon to analyze evidence and determine the full sequence of events leading up to the deaths.
Officials are urging anyone with information related to the case to contact Lieutenant Phillip Vinson at 478-414-4090 as the investigation proceeds.
The deaths of Briuna Hartry and her unborn child have left the Milledgeville community grieving an unimaginable loss, as friends and family struggle to process a future that has been tragically cut short.
As the investigation continues, the community remains united in mourning, remembering a life filled with hope, anticipation, and love that will never be forgotten.
