NEW YORK CITY — A 51-year-old man died after falling approximately 150 feet inside Madison Square Garden during a concert Saturday night, in a tragic incident that unfolded while he was celebrating his 25th wedding anniversary with his wife, according to authorities.
Police identified the victim as Paul Kueker, who was attending a performance by the jam-rock band Goose when the fatal fall occurred shortly before 10 p.m.
The New York Police Department said officers responded to reports of a person falling inside the arena at approximately 9:51 p.m. When emergency personnel arrived, Kueker was found unconscious and unresponsive. He was transported to Bellevue Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Investigators said Kueker fell from the venue’s Chase Bridge, an elevated suspended walkway installed during Madison Square Garden’s 2013 renovation. Witnesses reported seeing him fall from the upper level into a lower seating section, prompting panic and confusion among concertgoers.
Attendees described a chaotic scene as emergency responders rushed into the arena and portions of the seating area were immediately cordoned off. Some witnesses reported seeing a stretcher being used to remove the victim, while others said the area was quickly sealed off with police tape as officials assessed the situation.
Kueker’s family has since remembered him as a devoted husband and father whose life centered on his loved ones. His mother, Patricia Finelli, said he was deeply caring and generous, describing him as someone who would “give you the shirt off his back.” He is survived by his wife and two children.
He worked as director of operations for energy management company Smartcon Solutions, where colleagues expressed shock and grief following his sudden passing. The company described him as a valued and respected team member whose loss is being felt deeply across the organization.
The incident occurred during the second night of Goose’s two-show run at Madison Square Garden. The concert was briefly interrupted before resuming later in the evening, a decision that drew mixed reactions from attendees.
Following the performance, the band issued a statement expressing condolences to Kueker’s family and all those affected. Band members also addressed the tragedy during the following night’s show, calling it heartbreaking and urging fans to support one another.
Authorities said the circumstances surrounding the fall remain under active investigation. No additional details have been released at this time.
As friends, family, and colleagues mourn, Paul Kueker is being remembered as a loving family man whose life was tragically cut short during what was meant to be a joyful celebration.
