Sergeant Lucas Kinblom Obituary: UW–Stout Police Mourn Sudden Passing of Newly Promoted Campus Sergeant

MENOMONIE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin–Stout Polytechnic Police Department is mourning the unexpected passing of Sergeant Lucas Kinblom, a dedicated officer whose sudden death has left colleagues, students, and the broader campus community in shock and sorrow.

Sgt. Kinblom, who served with the UW–Stout Police Department since June 1, 2020, died unexpectedly while off duty. His passing comes just weeks after a major career milestone, having been promoted from patrol officer to sergeant on May 17, 2026.

Law enforcement leadership described his death as a profound loss to the department and the university community, noting that he was deeply respected for his professionalism, calm presence, and commitment to service.

During his tenure at UW–Stout, Sgt. Kinblom held multiple roles within the department, including patrol officer, narcotics investigator, field training officer, and instructor in both general law enforcement practices and Taser operations. Colleagues say he was known for his ability to remain composed under pressure and for his steady, compassionate approach when interacting with students and the public.

Before joining UW–Stout Police, Kinblom earned his associate degree in criminal justice from Chippewa Valley Technical College and completed the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Academy’s intensive training program. His career reflected a strong dedication to public safety and continuous professional development.

Those who worked alongside him describe him as a mentor to younger officers, someone who took the time to guide new recruits and strengthen the skills of his team. His leadership style and willingness to support others earned him widespread respect throughout the department.

University officials and police leadership have asked for patience and privacy as the department, his family, and colleagues grieve this sudden loss. Funeral arrangements are currently being planned, and memorial contributions may be temporarily directed to Stokes, Prock & Mundt Funeral Chapel in Altoona, Wisconsin.

Chief of Police Gregory Kalosis extended condolences on behalf of the department, asking the community to keep Sgt. Kinblom’s loved ones in their thoughts during this difficult time.

Sergeant Lucas Kinblom will be deeply missed, respectfully remembered, and honored for his service, leadership, and dedication to the UW–Stout community.
