IDAHO FALLS, Idaho — Family members, friends, and members of the Ririe community are mourning the tragic passing of 59-year-old Simone Stoumbaugh, who died following a devastating four-vehicle crash Monday afternoon near the intersection of East 49th North and U.S. Highway 26.
Authorities with Idaho State Police reported that the collision occurred at approximately 4:50 p.m. when a 2019 Nissan NV200 van failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of E 49th N and US26. The van struck a 2017 Dodge Challenger driven by Stoumbaugh, triggering a chain-reaction crash involving two additional westbound vehicles.
Investigators said the impact forced the Dodge Challenger into oncoming traffic, where it collided with a 2008 Ford Focus and a 2017 Ford F-250 carrying two juvenile passengers. Emergency responders arrived quickly and worked urgently to assist those involved in the crash.
Stoumbaugh was transported to a nearby hospital for emergency medical care, but despite life-saving efforts, she later succumbed to her injuries. Her identity was confirmed by Bonneville County Coroner Shante Sanchez, who noted that officials are continuing to work alongside Idaho State Police in the ongoing investigation.
