LAKE CHARLES, La. — McNeese State University and the University of Louisiana System are mourning the loss of Dr. John Noble, a longtime advocate for McNeese and a member of the UL System Board of Supervisors representing the Lake Charles area, who passed away today.
Dr. Noble’s leadership, knowledge, and advocacy left a lasting mark on McNeese State University and across Southwest Louisiana. Colleagues remember a dedicated public servant who championed higher education and fought for students, faculty, and the future of the region.
“John was a tireless advocate for McNeese,” a university official said. “He understood this community, and he used his voice to make sure our students had opportunities. His impact will be felt for years.”
As a member of the University of Louisiana System Board of Supervisors, Dr. Noble helped guide policy and support for the nine institutions in the UL System. At McNeese, he was known as a steady presence at campus events, a trusted advisor, and a passionate supporter of the Cowboys.

From capital projects to student success initiatives, Dr. Noble’s advocacy helped shape the direction of the university. His commitment to Southwest Louisiana extended beyond the boardroom — he was invested in the people, the culture, and the promise of the region.
