Macomb Township Car Crash Leaves 16-Year-Old Girl Dead After Vehicle Catches Fire on Fairchild Road

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Traffic was backed up for miles Friday evening following a one-vehicle rollover crash on I-20/59 southbound in west Birmingham.
The crash happened at approximately 6:52 p.m., according to initial reports from emergency dispatch.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue said one person was ejected from the vehicle during the rollover. That individual was transported to UAB Hospital. Their condition has not been released.
All southbound lanes were temporarily blocked as first responders worked to treat the victim and clear the scene, causing significant delays for evening commuters. At least one lane had reopened by 8 p.m., but residual backups continued.
Alabama State Troopers are investigating the cause of the crash. No additional injuries were reported.
Drivers are urged to use caution in the area and seek alternate routes until traffic returns to normal.
