Longtime Eastlake Church Member Bob Stouffer Killed in Tent Collapse During 20th Anniversary Celebration

A tragic accident during Eastlake Community Church’s 20th anniversary celebration claimed the life of longtime member Bob Stouffer after a large tent collapsed amid strong winds.
The incident occurred during the church’s anniversary event when a powerful gust of wind lifted the tent without warning, sending it crashing down onto those gathered underneath.
Jeff Keaton, the brother of Eastlake Community Church’s pastor, was attending the celebration when it happened. While not speaking on behalf of the church, Keaton shared his account of the frightening moments.
“I looked up and it was probably one hundred feet in the air and somehow it blew over all those people in there,” Keaton said.
Witnesses described a chaotic scene as attendees rushed to help those trapped beneath the structure. Emergency responders were called to the scene immediately.
A day after the incident, the fallen tent remained at the site as church members and community residents focused on remembering the life of Bob Stouffer, who witnesses identified as the victim.
As the community mourns the loss, many are remembering Stouffer for his years of dedication and involvement with the church. Members have expressed their condolences to his family while continuing to support one another in the aftermath of the tragedy.
The incident remains under investigation as officials work to determine the circumstances surrounding the collapse, including weather conditions and whether the structure met safety standards.
Grief counselors have been made available through the church for members and families impacted by the tragedy.
Information regarding services for Bob Stouffer will be announced by the family and Eastlake Community Church when available.
