HOUSTON, Texas — The Houston community is mourning the tragic death of Ladana Murrell, a 44-year-old woman who was fatally shot Friday evening at the New Hope Housing complex near Sharpstown, according to the Houston Police Department.

Authorities said officers responded at approximately 7:50 p.m. to reports of a shooting at 6015 Dale Carnegie Lane. When emergency crews arrived, they found Murrell suffering from a gunshot wound at an apartment entrance doorway. Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced her deceased at the scene.

Investigators later identified Murrell as the victim following notification of her family. The incident has left loved ones and community members in shock as they grapple with the sudden and violent loss.

According to police, a witness reported that Murrell and a man identified as 46-year-old Michael D. Franklin were involved in a physical altercation that escalated into gunfire. Authorities believe Franklin fled the scene immediately after the shooting.

Police confirmed that Murrell and Franklin were in a dating relationship. Franklin has since been named as the suspect and is currently wanted on a murder charge as investigators continue efforts to locate him.

The Houston Police Department Homicide Division is actively investigating the case and gathering evidence, while urging anyone with information regarding Franklin’s whereabouts to come forward.
