CHICO, Calif. — Family, friends, and members of the Chico community are mourning the heartbreaking loss of 13-year-old Carter Fuller, who died Wednesday evening following a tragic ATV crash along Skyway east of Nimshew Road near Paradise.
According to officials, the crash occurred on June 11, 2026, in the area just outside Paradise. Emergency responders were called to the scene, but Carter succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash.
At just 13, Carter’s sudden death has sent waves of grief through Chico schools, youth sports teams, and neighborhoods where he was known as a bright, energetic presence. Friends describe a kid who loved the outdoors, had a quick smile, and was fiercely loyal to the people he cared about.
“He was the kind of kid who made you laugh even on a bad day,” said one family friend. “Thirteen is far too young. There’s a hole in this community now that can’t be filled.”
Parents and community members have begun placing flowers and notes near the crash site along Skyway, turning the roadside into a growing memorial. Local counselors have been made available to students and classmates struggling to process the loss.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the circumstances of the crash. No additional details about what led to the incident have been released at this time.
For Carter’s family, the grief is immeasurable. For Chico and the greater Paradise area, the loss of a child has left the community shaken, reminded of how fragile and precious young lives are.
Carter Fuller is survived by family members and friends who are now holding tightly to memories of his laughter, his spirit, and the light he brought to those around him.
Memorial service details have not yet been announced. The family has requested privacy as they grieve.
He will be deeply missed.
