ROSEDALE, MISS. — A sense of shock and sorrow settled over Rosedale Thursday afternoon after law enforcement responded to reports of shots fired at Rosedale High School.
At approximately 2:08 p.m. on June 11, 2026, the Bolivar County Sheriff’s Office and the Rosedale Police Department were dispatched to the school following 911 calls reporting gunfire on campus, authorities confirmed.
Officials have not yet released information regarding injuries, the number of people involved, or whether a suspect is in custody. The scene remained active into the evening as deputies and officers secured the building and began their investigation.
Parents and family members gathered near the school perimeter Thursday, many in tears, waiting for information about students and staff. Local clergy and counselors were on site to support families as the community confronted a moment no town ever wants to face.
“This is every parent’s worst nightmare,” said one Rosedale resident standing outside the police line. “You send your kids to school to learn, to be safe. Now we’re all just praying.”
Rosedale High School was placed on lockdown immediately after the reports. Students were later reunited with families at a separate location, according to school district officials.
The Bolivar County Sheriff’s Office said additional details will be released as the investigation develops. Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 662-843-5378 or Rosedale Police Department at 662-759-3931.
Thursday’s incident has left Rosedale — a tight-knit Delta community — reeling. For many, the grief is compounded by disbelief that violence would touch the halls of their local high school.
Counseling services will be made available to students, staff, and families, school officials said.
This is a developing story. More information will be provided as it becomes available.
