Patrick Lamar Croskey Dead at 32: Found Unresponsive in Birmingham City Jail Cell

Macomb Township Car Crash Leaves 16-Year-Old Girl Dead After Vehicle Catches Fire on Fairchild Road

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — A 35-year-old inmate died Sunday at the Birmingham City Jail, marking the second death at the facility in three days, officials said.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office said the inmate’s name is being withheld pending notification of his family. He was identified as a Black male from Center Point.
Jail staff discovered the man unresponsive inside his private cell at 1 p.m. Sunday. He was pronounced dead at the jail at 1:57 p.m., according to the coroner’s office.
An autopsy is scheduled for Monday to determine the cause and manner of death. No additional details about the circumstances were immediately released.
Sunday’s death comes just three days after another inmate was found dead at the jail. On Thursday, 32-year-old Patrick Lamar Croskey was discovered unresponsive inside his cell.
The Birmingham Police Department and Jefferson County Coroner’s Office are investigating both in-custody deaths. The Alabama Department of Corrections does not oversee the Birmingham City Jail; the facility is operated by the city.
City officials have not released statements on either death as of Monday morning. It is not yet known whether the two incidents are related.
This is a developing story. Updates will be provided as more information is released by the coroner and law enforcement.
